SOMA

SOMA Neuromuscular Integration, or SOMA Bodywork, is a body/mind therapy which changes people physically and psychologically. The ten-session series structurally balances the body in gravity and integrates the nervous system to allow more freedom of movement and spontaneity.

SOMA creates physical changes through manipulation of the fascia (connective tissue around the muscles which give them their shape). Over time, this fascia—as the result of age, injury or stress—tends to glue together, preventing muscles from moving freely and independently.

This muscle restriction can result in pain, poor posture, and a general lack of vitality. Through SOMA, these blocks or restrictions are removed and new, more comfortable options for movement are possible.

Psychological change is fostered by introducing various techniques to enhance awareness: relaxation exercises, movement education, and personal journal-keeping. SOMA affirms the unity of the body/mind, so work in each area has a profound effect on the other. As a result, those undergoing SOMA typically exhibit remarkable improvements, in qualities such as self-reliance and confidence.

People of all ages can benefit from SOMA Bodywork, and can expect improvements long after the process is over. The change initiated by the work gives people the opportunity to transform their lives into paths of greater joy, creativity and fulfillment.

Somassage

Somassage—developed as maintenance for people who have already received the ten SOMA sessions—is adapted to address the specific needs of each individual's body. Thus, Somassage can act as an excellent introduction to SOMA Bodywork, or is available to anyone desiring a great, energizing deep tissue massage.
